Freedom of speech!

Here’s what we talked about at Element during week 1 of T.M.I.

There is a difference between FREEDOM of speech and speech without LIMITS.

Here are the filters we talked about :

1) Clear and Present Danger-

will the things you say create a dangerous situation?

Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

2) Fighting words-
Is something you say going to start a physical or verbal confrontation?
James 1:26 If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.

3) Libel and slander-
will something you say ruin the reputation of someone else?
Proverbs 20:19 A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid a man who talks too much.

4) Obscenity-
Are you talking about sex outside of the way God designed it?

Ephesians 5:4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

James 3:10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.

5) Time, place, manner-

Is what you’re saying appropriate for when, where, and how you’re saying it?

Just because you have freedom of speech doesn’t mean you should always speak freely.

COST

$175,
which includes accommodations, meals (dinner Friday – lunch Sunday), a shirt and all activities

TRANSPORTATION

Because Ebenezer Retreat Center is so close to home, we are asking that students get dropped off there instead of SCC. We will have SCC buses available if necessary to transport students to Ebenezer, but seats are limited to the first 55 students who request them during the online registration process.

Here are two videos from the last week of Hot Mess. First it’s the only cover song we’ve ever performed where someone hatched out of an egg. Next is the video that the Element Creative Team put together using the definitions of purity and love that we got from everyone at Element. You never know what’s going to happen at Element. Make sure you’re there this week!

We’re really excited about our new series, which is all about sex, relationships, and dating. If you know someone who is interested in any of those topics (and I’m guessing they are), get them out to Element during Hot Mess! They may thank you for it later.

Element U is back, Winter Retreat recap, & a Bonfire!

Huge weekend coming up at Element! We’re really excited for the first Element service since the Winter Retreat. And after Element this week you should stick around for a huge bonfire(!!) Not like the little kind that only 12 people can actually get close to. This one’s gonna be huge! Huge, I tell you! And we’ll have smores and extended worship time out there.

Then we’re firing up Element U again this Sunday morning. Did you watch the video yet? You should! Here it is:

Christmas is exciting, and the Journey was amazing, but we miss having Element! Good thing is, we’re back on as of January 8th. Check out this video to get an idea of some of what’s going to be happening that night. Hope you have a great Christmas and New Year’s, and remember it’s all about Jesus!

Journey of the Lost Nugget

You should definitely watch this video from week 2 of our Lost Causes series. It’s the most moving film about a chicken nugget that has ever been made! Also, make sure you come out on November 20 for the third and final week of Lost Causes. We’re also having Element’s Got Talent after the element service this week… come and bring some friends!
